For decades, research has shown us “segregated churches breed segregated everyday lives.”
Section of me really wants to reply, Oh, you do not say? What a conclusion that is obvious. Whenever we segregate ourselves in our most intimate situations like church, we likely perform some exact same within our friendships and dating relationships. These studies, which reveal how regular churchgoers are less likely to date somebody outside their competition, weigh a tad bit more heavily on those of us who find themselves into the minority, and on occasion even the lone individual of our race, at church.
A woman that is black a predominantly white church must find her security in the Lord. This, needless to say, is not any distinctive from anybody at any church. But I actually do think there’s a unique challenge for a young, single, black colored girl. We have unhelpful remarks from people like Taye Diggs “jokingly” perpetuating the stereotype that black women are hard and harsh to cope with. Or then there is the idea that is wrongheaded black colored women are less physically attractive than many other females. We fight with finding our identity in the Christ as opposed to the texture of our hair.
Black ladies must fight to ignore the lies worldwide and seek the facts in God’s Word about whom we are really: his beloved daughters made stunning through Jesus. Those that choose to attend a church that is predominantly white another challenge for themselves, in essence choosing to remain single for quite a while. They’ve an unique challenge, that’s often hard and embarrassing to express.
I mainly felt comfortable in my identity when I was single. We never felt unsightly among my girl buddies. I never aimed to suit into skinny jeans.
